it stood out to me because Garvey is tell Cole that just because you are forgived for something that you've done, doesn't mean that they will forget what you've done
“This was the pain of being alone and unwanted” -Cole thinking he isn’t cared for by anyone. Pg. 31 Cole’s parents were both drinkers. They either neglected or abused him. He thought all the people who tried to help didn’t care about whatever happened to him. I think he wanted attention and caring from his parents.
"Forgiving isn't forgetting, chump. page: 33 Chapter 3 This stood out to me. Cole wanted Peter to be there when they have the Hearing Circle. But Garvey said he may not be ready to forgive you. Cole said maybe if he forgives me, everyone will forget what I did.
pg 33 chapter 3 ''forgiving isn't forgetting chump'' this stood out to me cause cole thaught that if peter forgave him maybe everyone would just forget about what cole had done
“I don’t care if he forgives me.” Chapter 3 page 33 This quote stood out to me because I’m wondering why Cole even wanted Peter to be at the circle of justice.
You've read this novel several times over, so it must be a challenge to write in our perspective. We have little clue about what's going to happen next.
In response to Ely: It's not really that hard, when I am reading it now, I pay attention to what is happening at each chapter as I read and live in the moment rather than remember what happens later in the book.
"You don't know what it's like being hit over and over until you're so numb you don't feel anything!" Pg. 28 This quote stood out to me because it means so much. Cole explained this to Garvey, when Garvey was trying to help him. What this means is that Cole's family has problems, which could be the source of his trouble. The numbness could also be within him, because he got hit so many times he doesn't care or feels it emotionally, getting hit anymore.
Chapter 3 “The cake sucks!’ he shouted. ‘And so does my life!” pg. 30 Cole feels mad at his parents because his mom doesn’t talk to him and his dad hits him.
THIS CAKE SUCKS!(PAGE 30) i think he is mad because he was being told what to do and he just cant handle being told what to do so much that he gets mad and has nothing else to take it out on.
"you swim like you have lead up your butt". pg.31 This quote speaks to me because his dad criticizes Cole for everything he does in the rudest yet funniest ways.
“How come everything is always about you? This forgiveness isn’t for you. Until Peter forgives you, he won’t heal.” This quote has meaning. It means that don’t be selfish and say sorry to them and be nice.
In chapter 3 in a few parts it said that Peter got beat up by he’s dad and he’s mom ignores him they are drunk a lot page 31 Cole was pad to go to the Circle Justice page 32
"Nobody cared about him. Nobody understood him. Nobody knew what it was like living with parents who wished he wasn't alive." pg.26 Cole's parents are divorced and he thinks they hate him, and that all they do is care about themselves. He thinks that all his life he's been dumped on.

This quote stood out to me because I’m wondering why Cole even wanted Peter to be at the circle of justice.
I don't think Cole wanted Peter that at all. He didn't want forgiveness, Cole hasn't even admitted to himself that he has done anything wrong.

Good post Kai, I also think that it shows his life needs a lot of work to get back on track. Not just that his life is not worth living.

I think you are right, but why do you think this matters in this story? How is this information about his relationship with his parents important?
ReplyDeleteChapter 3
ReplyDelete“It’s like a bad dream I can’t wake up from”
Cole said that about the way his parents drink all the time.
Yes, I think part of the nightmare was about his parent's drinking, but I think there was even more that made up the nightmare he was living.
